ArtSpring Inmate Mentor, 2014

“In theatre class, I learned commitment. I realized life isn’t all about me and what I’m going through, but that we are all connected in some way to complete a bigger picture. In theatre, we depended on each other to be each other’s cues and guides for the next scene. In dance, I learned accountability. I know that I’m responsible for my actions, my words, my choices. When we had assignments to complete and dance steps to create, I realized that I could not procrastinate on it all week and then make up something that day of class because my lack of commitment and preparation would show in the sloppy work that I produce. In dance and in life.”
